The Homestead Resort Shuttle — Private Transportation for Glen Arbor's Premier Resort
The Homestead Resort is the kind of place people plan their whole summer around. A full four-season resort in Glen Arbor, right at the edge of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore — one of the most naturally beautiful stretches of land in the Midwest. Golf, beaches, spa, fine dining, wine country practically next door.
What most resort guests don't think about until they arrive:
There is no Uber or Lyft in Leelanau County. None. If you're flying into Traverse City and expecting to call a car from the airport, or if you want to make a day trip to Arcadia Bluffs or Crystal Downs while you're staying at The Homestead — you need private transportation arranged before you get here.
Lakeshore Shuttle & Tours is that call. We're based in Frankfort, about 30 miles south of Glen Arbor, and we've been running private group transportation throughout Benzie and Leelanau counties since 2018. Airport pickups, golf course transfers, wine trail tours, multi-day resort logistics — we handle it all so your group can stay focused on the experience.
About The Homestead Resort & Manitou Passage Golf Club
The Homestead Resort sits at 1 Wood Ridge Road in Glen Arbor, Michigan — a small town on the Leelanau Peninsula just north of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The resort has been drawing guests to this stretch of Lake Michigan coastline for decades, offering a combination of lodging, dining, spa, and year-round outdoor activities that's hard to find anywhere else in the Midwest.
The resort's golf offering centers on Manitou Passage Golf Club — an Arnold Palmer-designed parkland-style course that winds through rolling terrain between Pyramid Point and Good Harbor Bay, just east of Lake Michigan. Palmer chose one of its holes as one of his best-ever Par 5 designs, which gives you a sense of what the front nine is working with. The back nine is less hilly but no less demanding, finishing with a risk-and-reward Par 5 that requires a water carry to the green.
The course is named for the Manitou Passage — the stretch of water between the Leelanau Peninsula and the Manitou Islands — and the views from the property match the name. It's a course that rewards patience and local knowledge, set against a backdrop that makes it genuinely hard to stay frustrated about a bad shot.
The Wider Resort Experience
What makes The Homestead different from a standalone golf course is everything else surrounding it. White sand beaches on Lake Michigan. Spa Amira. Multiple dining options including Cafe Manitou and Nonna's. Miles of trails and access to Sleeping Bear Dunes right next door. Wine country within easy reach along the Leelanau Peninsula wine trail.
For groups that want more than just golf — and that's most of them — The Homestead is a natural base of operations for a full Northern Michigan experience. Lakeshore handles the transportation for all of it.
Getting to The Homestead Resort
The Homestead is located at 1 Wood Ridge Road, Glen Arbor, MI 49636. Most guests fly into Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City, about 35 minutes to the northeast. The resort is in the heart of Leelanau County — there is no rideshare service available anywhere in the area. Plan ground transportation before you arrive.
We Handle the Whole Stay — Not Just One Ride
Resort guests at The Homestead often need more than a single shuttle to the golf course. Here's what a typical stay with Lakeshore handling transportation looks like:
Arrival day — Private airport pickup from Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City. We meet your group at arrivals and take you directly to the resort — no rental car, no navigating unfamiliar roads after a travel day.
Golf days — Door-to-door transfers from The Homestead to Manitou Passage Golf Club, or day trips to Arcadia Bluffs, Crystal Downs, and Crystal Mountain. We keep your tee time schedule on track.
Off days — Wine tours along the Leelanau Peninsula wine trail — a natural add-on for any group staying this close to wine country. Or a scenic drive and excursion to Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Departure day — Return airport transfer timed around your schedule. Nobody misses a flight over a slow checkout.
One company. One contact. Every ride for the whole trip.
Golf and Wine Country. Right in the Same Place.
The Homestead sits in Leelanau County — one of the premier wine regions in Michigan. For groups that play golf in the morning and want a wine trail tour in the afternoon, this is the perfect location. And we happen to run both.
The Leelanau Peninsula wine trail puts a dozen-plus wineries within easy reach of The Homestead. After a morning round at Manitou Passage, an afternoon wine tour with Lakeshore is a natural next move. No designated driver. No parking lots. Just the trail.
It's one of the things that makes a Homestead trip genuinely different from other Northern Michigan golf destinations — and one of the things that makes Lakeshore a useful partner for the entire stay, not just the round trip to the course.
Northern Michigan's Best Courses Are Within Reach
Staying at The Homestead puts you in the middle of some of the best golf in the country. Here are the courses worth adding to the itinerary:
Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club — About 40 miles south on M-22. One of the top-ranked public courses in the country, perched above Lake Michigan. The most-requested day trip from The Homestead.
Crystal Downs Country Club — About 35 miles south in Frankfort. A top-10 MacKenzie design. For groups with access, it's a natural pairing with a Homestead stay.
Crystal Mountain Resort — About 45 miles southeast in Thompsonville. A full golf resort with 36 holes — worth a day trip for groups who want more courses on the itinerary.
Kingsley Club — About 30 miles east near Traverse City. One of Michigan's premier private clubs for groups who have access.
Forest Dunes Golf Course — About 90 miles east in Roscommon. A longer day trip but worth it — the only reversible 18-hole course in the country.
